The City has archival records of Village and City of Watertown
(since 1816 - most now on microfilm)
The City Historian has over 350 notebooks on subjects that include:

- churches
- industry
- business
- famous people
- entertainment
- inventions
- fairs
- government
- courts
- counties
- cemeteries
- schools
- hospitals

Village and City directories are available dating back to the 1840's. Books on New York State History and Jefferson County History can be used for research. Scrapbooks, genealogy information and birth, death and marriage indexes from 1883-1915 can be found here. Volunteers staff the office on a part-time basis. While no items can be removed from the office, copies can be made at a nominal fee.
